Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 14, 2026
Chat2L (“the Service”) is operated from Canada. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What we collect
Account information: Your name and email address, provided by Google when you sign in.
Course materials:Documents, lecture slides, and other files you sync from your university's learning management system. This includes PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and HTML pages.
Content you create: Chat conversations, quizzes, flashcard sets, and study pathways you generate using the Service.
Usage data: We collect basic analytics about how you use the Service, including pages visited, features used, and session information. We use PostHog for analytics, which may record session replays (recordings of how you interact with the app). These replays are used solely to improve the product and fix bugs.
Error data: We use Sentry to track errors and crashes. Error reports may include technical details about the request that caused the error.
How we use your data
To provide the Service: We store and process your course materials to power chat, quizzes, flashcards, and study pathways.
AI processing: Your materials are processed by third-party AI services to power features like chat, quizzes, flashcards, and study pathways. These providers process your content through their APIs and do not use API inputs to train their models, per their respective terms of service.
Analytics and improvements: We use aggregated, non-identifying usage data to understand how the Service is used and to improve it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal data to anyone
- We don't share your course materials with other users — your account is completely private and no other user can access your materials
- We don't maintain a shared library or database of course content that users can browse
- We don't use your materials to train AI models
- We don't publish, redistribute, or make your materials available outside your account
- We don't send you marketing emails (other than essential account-related communications)
Data storage
Your data is stored on servers located in North America. Course materials, chat history, and account data are stored in a PostgreSQL database on our infrastructure.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and course materials. Some data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days after deletion.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial legislation, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data — you can view your course materials, chat history, quizzes, and flashcards within the app at any time
- Correct inaccurate personal data — contact us to update your information
- Delete your data — request account deletion by contacting us, and we will remove your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent — you can stop using the Service at any time

Cookies
Chat2L uses cookies for authentication (keeping you signed in) and analytics. We do not use advertising cookies.
Third-party services
We use third-party services for hosting, authentication, analytics, error tracking, and email delivery. These services may process limited data as needed to perform their functions. A full list of sub-processors is available on request by contacting us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app.
